Century Timber Frames

At Centry Timber Frames we focus on quality, not high output. We get all of our material locally. We either buy the lumber from a local sawmill, or we saw our own from timbers that  we sustainably harvest from our century farm.  We take great care to protect the forest by not overharvesting. We want to be good stewards of the land that has been in our family for over one hundred and fifty years.

This shed is 10" x 14".  The frame is made with rugged 8"x8" corner posts, and 8"x8" roof plates. The floor joists are 4"x6" on 2 ft. centers. The floor is made from rough sawn 1 1/2" hemlock.

The shed frames are sturdy and made using traditional timber framing methods. The mortice and tennon joints are held together with 1" Ash pegs that we make here on the farm from our own trees.

You will notice that some of the timbers in the frames have wane (the corners are not square showing the natural round of the tree). Wane does not weaken the frame, and it adds a unique look that I think really adds to the aesthetic appeal.

We close our sheds in with Hemlock board and battons. We do not use any plywood or particle board. The doors and windows are also made here on the farm with our own lumber. The doors are made of Hemlock, and the windows are made from Ash. The windows hinge on the bottom and tilt in for ventilation.
